Some time between learning to read (poorly, I'm dyslexic.) and getting a training bra (I'm still an A cup), I decided I hated my name. It wasn't unique enough to shout out proudly, but it wasn't basic enough to feel I fit in. The letters M and O represent one of my last names, thus leading to the nickname Mo.

This was originally my older brother's nickname at school because his name is, in fact, basic. Mo distinguished him from the others with the same first name. But Mo was something he was simply assigned, while for me, it was something I craved. Does being more desirous of something make you more deserving of it? At the time, I didn't care. It was mine.

As I grew up I met too many people to continue to repeatedly explain my grievances concerning my name. Also, I sounded like a brat whenever I did. So I learned to love my given name while discovering a deeper feeling of affection that came from hearing those who knew me when I had missing teeth call me Mo.

Mo is a little Mexican girl who had no idea who she was but knew it had to be something special. Once I reached my 20's I realized that I still have no idea who I am or what I want to do. But I lacked the once organic sense of assertiveness and confidence to say that I knew I was someone special, meant to do something special with my life.

The good news is that Mo was me and funny enough, I am Mo. Mo is a reflection of my childlike optimism and fortitude; qualities planted far too early on for me to no longer carry them somewhere. Mo is my muse. I love her, I love you, I love me.

   xoxo, Mo <3

I love em dashes

The quality of life throughout the U.S started its catastrophic decline once Vine left my ipad and boys stopped forming boy bands and layering long and short sleeves. Think about it, what good has come since One-Direction broke up? I wasn’t ever even a fan (I wasn’t allowed to watch Disney or Nickelodeon) but I’m […]

I hate poems that don’t rhyme

I’d eat a whole lemon rawI’d even bite into an unripe lime Before choosing any other hill to die on Besides the one where I deeply despise poems that intentionally do not rhyme. I’d rather look at the world through a peep-hole And stuff my face with the sourest key-lime pie than to read you a poem with no rhythmAnd […]

I’m allergic to weed

In case of emergency, here’s a list of my allergies:  Benadryl (I know)  Pecans  Weed I found out that I was allergic to weed when I was 17 and took CBD oil one night to help me sleep. I almost made myself sleep forever. When the doctor told me to “stay away from anything cannabis […]

Kiss a nerd

My favorite superhero is Spiderman (duh, he’s hot). There is something about an awkward brunette nerd that seems to get me every time. I have always had a thing for nerds. For me, to be intellectually compatible is to be in love.  With the recent surge of toxic, red-pilled men; I yearn for the seemingly […]
