The quality of life throughout the U.S started its catastrophic decline once Vine left my ipad and boys stopped forming boy bands and layering long and short sleeves. Think about it, what good has come since One-Direction broke up? I wasn’t ever even a fan (I wasn’t allowed to watch Disney or Nickelodeon) but I’m not blind. This is no coincidence.
The energy that we as a society once dedicated to Minecraft cheat codes, has since been harnessed for pure evil— A.I. It’s everywhere!
I didn’t know too much about it until my second year of college when one of my professors asked if I had used ChatGPT to write a paper. Girl— please. A.I hadn’t been detected, but he was suspicious because of my “excessive use of em dashes”.

I have never ever used A.I to generate any sort of writing. Why would I? I’m an immigrant, a woman, and clinically depressed. I have far too many thoughts to ever feel a deficiency in topics to write about.
The em dash is simply my most favorite punctuation mark; the semicolon takes silver. It’s just perfect —the em dash, I mean. It can make anything you say longer, shorter, quirkier, funnier… I tried to explain all of this to my professor, but was met with a blank face. I suppose not even a PhD can teach the art of comedic timing.
Since when did we begin allowing non-living things to trademark what us —living human beings have created?
A.I has kept growing since. It has monopolized every corner of life; threatening careers, art, love— and to that I say: no more! I write —and speak, for that matter— using em dashes because while a professor may have accused me of using A.I, no one —and I mean no one, has ever accused me of being unfunny. For that, I have punctuation and the non-artificial human experience to thank.

The first sentence in and I’m hooked.
